This morning Fabrizio Romano tweeted that ‘[Liverpool talent lewis Koumas has decided to join Birmingham City on a season long loan](https://x.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1958813746630959261).’ The 19-year-old will join Blues on loan with no option to buy.
Lewis Koumas spent last season on loan at Stoke City, where he managed to achieve 4 goals and 3 assists in all competitions last season for the Potters. This was in a Stoke team that struggled a lot last season as they only managed to finish 18th, therefore Koumas will likely increase his contributions next to the great depth of attackers that Blues have. The Welshman often featured on the right and left wing for Stoke. This will make him a perfect fit for Blues as one of the areas that the squad needed more depth in was the wing. He will provide the competition for Demarai Gray and Keshi Anderson that Blues have been lacking.
Lewis Koumas will join Blues on loan from Liverpool, who clearly rate the youngster very highly as they don’t want to let him leave permanently and so they must believe he has the potential to become a first-team player at Anfield. This will excite Chris Davies as he will believe he can coach Koumas into a big attacking threat for Blues this season. Furthermore, James Pearce reported that Koumas [‘turned down Sheffield United among others .’](https://bluesfocus.co.uk/2025/08/20/what-chris-davies-must-look-to-refine-in-blues-promotion-push/) The interest in Koumas from other big Championship clubs further highlights the talent he has and how well Blues have done to beat so much competition for his signature. It is likely that Koumas will compete for Keshi Anderson’s place on the left as that is where he featured for Stoke a lot of the time and Davies won’t drop Demarai Gray after his impressive start to the season for Blues in the Championship.
Overall, the signing of Lewis Koumas on loan from Liverpool is one that should excite Blues fans as he is clearly highly rated and possesses the talent to become a top player for Blues and he fits a position that Blues lack depth and competition in.
