Jaxson Dart Gets Honest About His Role With Giants

The New York Giants have had a very public struggle to replace Eli Manning as their franchise quarterback.

Manning, of course, is a legend within the organization, most well-known for helping the Giants beat Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in two different Super Bowls.

He has been retired for several years, but in that time, the Giants haven’t been able to nail down a consistent starter.

Daniel Jones showed some promise early in his career, but the Giants moved on from him after he wasn’t winning as much as they hoped.

After seeing these QB issues, the Giants decided to take a multi-tiered approach in the offseason, adding three different quarterbacks with varying experiences.

Russell Wilson is slated to be the Week 1 starter, leaving veteran Jameis Winston and rookie Jaxson Dart fighting for the QB2 role on the depth chart.

Many expected Dart to have a better shot at being the starter, but coach Brian Daboll wants to roll with a veteran, at least to begin the season.

While some young players could be upset with not being able to start right away, Dart has chosen a different perspective.

“I’m just shifting my perspective to be the best teammate I can be. Russ has completely earned that role for him, he’s played amazing. He’s played elite,” Dart said per Doug Rush on X.

Now that he knows that being the starter isn’t in the cards for him right away, Dart has decided to take the high road.

As he mentioned, he wants to be a great teammate, hoping to soak in as much knowledge from veteran players as he can along the way.

Wilson might not have looked like his former self over the past few seasons, but he’s still in the league for a reason and could have a lot to offer a player like Dart in the QB room.
