Leeds visit Arsenal on Saturday for their first away game of their Premier League season.

The game should be one of the toughest of the season for Leeds, as the Gunners finished runners-up last season and have strengthened well in the transfer window.

What’s more, Arsenal have a fantastic record at home against promoted sides.

Arsenal are overwhelming favourites to win the match against Leeds, but Daniel Farke is remaining optimistic about his team’s chances at Emirates Stadium.

Leeds have also strengthened well in the transfer window and looked more than capable of thriving in the top tier when they beat Everton at Elland Road.

The likes of Anton Stach, Lucas Perri and Gabriel Gudmundsson all played like Premier League veterans during the 1-0 victory.

The Whites took the game to Everton from the very first minute and were deserved winners on the night.

Looking ahead to the Arsenal game, Farke insisted he would instruct his players to play like that against every opponent.

Speaking to the official Leeds website, he said: “We won’t sell our DNA in this Premier League season. I think if you just concentrate on trying to defend 90 or whatever, 95, 96 minutes, you have no chance to survive there.”

His words suggest that Leeds fans can expect their team to go blow-for-blow with Arsenal, rather than ‘parking the bus’ and hoping to hit them on the counter-attack.

What is Leeds’ recent record against Arsenal?

Leeds haven’t won against Arsenal home or away in their last 14 meetings.

Their last victory was in May 2003, when a late Mark Viduka goal sealed a 3-2 win and handed the Premier League title to Manchester United.

In the following season, Leeds lost both games to Arsenal on the way to Premier League relegation. They were knocked out of the FA Cup by the Gunners that year as well.

While Leeds languished in the lower divisions, the Gunners knocked them out of the FA Cup another three times (2011, 2012, 2020).

They wouldn’t face Arsenal again in the Premier League until 2020-21. Since then, they’ve drawn one game and lost the other five.

Leeds’ Premier League record against Arsenal since the turn of the decade

Farke will do his best to recreate the spirit of 2003 when his team visits Emirates Stadium on Saturday in a bid to give Leeds their first victory over the Gunners in 22 years.
