The Man Utd youngster is yet to sign a new contract with his boyhood club with talks still ongoing.
The 20-year-old signed his last United deal in February 2023, which runs until June 2027, with the option to trigger an optional year in the deal. It means United are still in a comfortable position regarding his immediate future, though it is understood his current terms do not necessarily reflect the level of importance he currently has in the first-team squad.
United have been in talks over an improved deal for several months, but is not believed to be close to an agreement at this moment in time. It means there is an element of uncertainty surrounding Mainoo's long-term future at Old Trafford, speculation that rose again when he did not get off the bench in the opening weekend defeat to Arsenal.

Mainoo has made 72 appearances for the United first-team since his debut in January 2023 and is expected to play a key role under Amorim across the forthcoming campaign. United only have four senior central midfield options at their disposal in the shape of Bruno Fernandes, Manuel Ugarte, Casemiro and Mainoo.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Amorim was asked for an update on contract talks with Mainoo: "That part is with Jason (Wilcox), so it is our player he has a contract, I didn’t hear any news about that."
When asked about the youngster's long-term role at the club, he added: "He had some issues. We play with two midfielders and sometimes it is a different way of playing. So we are trying. They have to understand, the young players, there is phases in the season. Nowadays this is normal, with a lot of games, things are going to change. But he is there, he is fighting, he is training. He is one more option for us to win games.”
