"All in": Spanish giants confirm record-breaking deal for Chelsea player with quirky social…

> Villarreal have confirmed that they have completed the club-record signing of Chelsea defender Renato Veiga.

Despite the Blues requiring a replacement for the injured Levi Colwill, it quickly became apparent that Veiga remained available for transfer before the end of the summer window.

Although Chelsea were initially requesting a fee in the region of £34.5m, strongest suitors Villarreal were never going to pay that sum having rarely spent in excess of £20m on a single player in their history.

However, as reports alluded to earlier this week, a compromise was reached between the two teams with Veiga eager to finalise a transfer to the Yellow Submarine.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that Villarreal have agreed to a €29.5m (£25.52m) package for the Portugal international, Chelsea also possessing a significant sell-on fee.

Veiga signs bumper Villarreal contract

In a social media video posted on X, Villarreal say that they have gone "all in" on signing the 22-year-old, emphasising that it is the biggest transfer outlay in their history.

Veiga has penned a seven-year contract with the La Liga side, who will hope that he can become an influential figure in the middle of the backline.

The deal also represents major business for Chelsea who are more than doubling their money on a player who cost £12m last year.

He made 18 appearances for Chelsea in the first half of last season before making 15 outings in the colours of Juventus during a brief loan spell.

That has extended a bizarre streak of Veiga never playing more than 26 times for any of his last five clubs since turning professional.

Villarreal will inevitably expect that to change now that he has committed his future to the Spanish outfit until 2032.

Where do Chelsea now stand in terms of net-profit?

Chelsea are now up to somewhere in the region of £230m generated from player sales this summer, but plenty of work remains ahead.

They are still approximately £32m away from breaking even for this transfer window, something that is necessary given the punishment that they recently received from UEFA for breaching financial regulations.

Focus will now turn to selling Carney Chukwuemeka to Borussia Dortmund and getting the best deals possible for Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson.

Several other fringe players remain on the transfer list with RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons and Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho waiting to make the switch to Stamford Bridge.
