Nuno Espirito Santo breaks silence on his relationship with Evangelos Marinakis at Nottingham…

Evangelos Marinakis is a very hands-on owner, as displayed by the countless times you see him on the pitch with manager Nuno Espírito Santo.

The Greek has provided the Forest manager with a great foundation for the coming season, signing eight players so far, including latest arrival Douglas Luiz.

Early on Friday morning, rumours stated Marinakis was considering sacking Nuno; however, these were later rebuffed, saying the club intended to do no such thing.

Ahead of their clash against Crystal Palace, Nuno did touch on his relationship with Evangelos Marinakis, and it isn’t great news.

Nuno Espírito Santo says relationship with Evangelos Marinakis isn’t as close as last season

Nuno Espírito Santo has lifted the lid on his relationship with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, admitting that the two are “not as close” and the “relationship has changed.”

In his pre-match press conference for Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace, the Portuguese manager said last season they spoke “daily”, but this is now not the case.

He went on to say that this is “not a good thing” and that conversations between the two “haven’t gone well this summer.”

This follows after Nuno had been outspoken about his issues with Forest’s business, but since he issued a public cry for signings, owner Marinakis has delivered.

James McAtee, Omari Hutchinson, Arnaud Kalimuendo, and Douglas Luiz have all been announced since the Tricky Trees manager made his comments.

Nuno Espirito Santo hopes his relationship can be fixed with Evangelos Marinakis

While a relationship between the owner and manager seems strained, Nuno believes it is in the best interests of everyone for it to be fixed.

Adding to his comments on the relationship, he said, “I think everyone at the club should be together but this is not the reality.”

Marinakis and Espirito Santo clashing is news that Forest fans will not like to hear. The pair are both beloved figures at the club.

The City Ground chanted about Marinakis recently, highlighting how they feel about the Greek, while fans have taken immensely to Nuno due to him guiding them back onto the European stage.

It remains to be seen what this change in relationship will mean. The Forest manager just signed a new contract until 2028, and the money spent so far suggests that he is still being backed by Marinakis.
