Ruben Amorim responds when asked about Rasmus Hojlund’s future at Man Utd

Rasmus Hojlund was overlooked for Manchester United’s first game of the season, amid growing interest from clubs across Italy.

When pre-season began, Rasmus Hojlund was the leading striker in Manchester United’s first team, but a lot has changed since then.

United signed Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, which has led to Hojlund falling down the striker pecking order.

This means Hojlund will get limited minutes if he doesn’t complete a move before the transfer deadline.

Hojlund is set to reluctantly accept that he does not have a future at Old Trafford, despite previously expressing his desire to remain at the club and fight for his place.

The Denmark international impressed during his time in Italy at Atalanta, leading to interest from clubs like AC Milan and Napoli this summer.

It is understood that negotiations are ongoing with Napoli over a deal for Hojlund.

Ruben Amorim hails Rasmus Hojlund’s professionalism

After two difficult seasons at United, it appears as though the writing is on the wall for Hojlund.

Sesko is expected to take responsibility as United’s leading striker, but he, too, will be replaced in the team if he struggles to score goals like Hojlund.

Hojlund has managed 26 goals in a United shirt since joining the club, including 10 across all competitions last term.

Amorim hailed the Dane’s professionalism when he was asked by reporters how the striker reacted to being left out of the squad that lost against Arsenal last weekend.

“Like a professional player,” Amorim said. “We need to see.

“Let’s wait and see when the market closes and then everything will be clear.”

United take on Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday and it remains to be seen if Hojlund will be involved.

Hojlund trained with his teammates at Carrington this morning as they prepared to face the Cottagers.

United are still hoping to get rid of their unwanted players this summer.

They include Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia.

Amorim claims he is not involved in moving players on because that responsibility has been given to football director Jason Wilcox, with whom he is in contact every day.

When asked about United’s outgoings, Amorim added: “You have to talk with Jason [Wilcox]. We have a department that is responsible for that part. I’m just focused on Sunday’s game. We talk every day. We talk about all the situations.”

“It’s not an idea that these guys are going to leave, to play in a different club and then we’ll receive another player.

“We don’t know what is going to happen, but we’re not waiting to take out someone to get another. I think the players you are talking about are not with this group at this moment.”
