Newcastle identify Alexander Isak’s old teammate as new striker target

Newcastle could now look to replace Alexander Isak with his former strike partner at Real Sociedad, as their hunt for a new centre-forward continues.

Isak’s future at Newcastle appears untenable, despite manager Eddie Howe’s insistence on Friday that he would be happy to reintegrate him within his squad.

Howe told reporters ahead of his side’s clash with Liverpool that the situation “looks like it is coming to an end,” and that could come with a British record move to Anfield.

Newcastle‘s statement on Wednesday stopped short of ruling out a sale, only that certain conditions need to be met in order for Isak to leave as he wishes.

One of those will be sourcing a suitable replacement, and the Mail‘s Craig Hope reports that Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth has now been discussed as an option.

Writing on X, Hope explained that Newcastle are exploring as many as three candidates while they push for an answer regarding Brentford‘s Yoane Wissa by Friday.

Sorloth, who played alongside Isak while on loan at Real Sociedad, seems a realistic replacement in the first-choice role up front.

The 29-year-old scored 24 goals in 53 games for Atletico last season but finds himself behind Julian Alvarez in the pecking order up front.

Newcastle have also attempted a move for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, with the Express & Star‘s Liam Keen reporting that they were pushing for a deal worth upwards of £60 million.

Hope maintains that Larsen is not for sale, though his club are seemingly open to an agreement in that region.

Meanwhile, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano adds on X that contact has been made this week with Chelsea‘s Nicolas Jackson, who is another striker known to be available this summer.

Bayern Munich and, interestingly, Aston Villa are also suitors for Jackson, with the latter’s involvement potentially opening Ollie Watkins up for a sale.

Watkins is also on Newcastle‘s radar and if Villa were able to reunited Unai Emery with his former Villarreal centre-forward Jackson it would not be unrealistic to suggest that the England international could then move to St James’ Park.

It is clearly a situation which depends on many moving parts and Liverpool are largely left to wait for a resolution before making their expected second bid.

But Newcastle‘s ongoing pursuit of not only one striker, but two, indicates that they are doing all they can to ensure they are not be left with an unsettled Isak as part of their squad beyond September 1.
