Hurzeler spoilt for choice across the pitch: Predicted Brighton lineup vs Everton

Brighton & Hove Albion could remain unchanged when they become the first Premier League visitors to Hill Dickinson Stadium to face Everton on Sunday.

Fabian Hurzeler’s men were virtually at full strength, but a late lapse in concentration saw them drop two points at home to Fulham on the opening day.

Brighton have seven new players in their squad for the new season, but Maxim De Cuyper was the only debutant at the Amex a week ago, with the Belgian set to be the long-term replacement for Pervis Estupinan.

Lewis Dunk and Jan Paul van Hecke remain Hurzeler’s first-choice centre-back pairing, but Brighton have added plenty of strength in depth, with Diego Coppola and Olivier Boscagli both arriving over the summer.

Mats Wieffer joined the club last summer, and has predominantly been used as a midfielder, but the Dutchman has started this campaign at right-back, and could remain there here, but Ferdi Kadioglu and Joel Veltman are more natural options waiting in reserve.

The most eye-catching signing of the summer was young Greek forward Charalampos Kostoulas’s move from Olympiacos, but even though the 18-year-old has joined for £30m, his ascent to the first team could be a slow process, as he was in the under-21 side last week, and scored against West Brom.

Georginio Rutter was the preferred option in attack, coming in for the now-departed Joao Pedro, but Danny Welbeck is someone Hurzeler can turn to, and the veteran forward has five goals and five assists in his Premier League career against Everton.

Julio Enciso is one player who will not be available, as he is finalising a bizarre move to BlueCo, which will see him go straight to Strasbourg, before eventually moving on to Chelsea.

Solly March is also absent, having not yet returned to full training following a recent setback, while Adam Webster will miss most of the season following knee ligament surgery, but Jack Hinshelwood could return after missing out with a knock last week.

Ex-Liverpool midfielder James Milner will not get a welcome reception away to their bitter Merseyside rivals here, but the 39-year-old extended his extraordinary record of appearing in consecutive PL seasons last weekend, with this now being his 24th, after making his debut back in 2002.

Brighton & Hove Albion possible starting lineup:

Verbruggen; Wieffer, Van Hecke, Dunk, De Cuyper; Baleba, O’Riley, Ayari; Minteh, Rutter, Mitoma
