Chelsea legend John Terry names the only current manager he would 'love' to play under

Enzo Maresca is doing a remarkable job in charge of Chelsea, however one club legend did not name him as the one current boss he would love to play under.

John Terry enjoyed playing time under a number of the world’s best managers during his time at Stamford Bridge, with the most success coming in the years when Jose Mourinho was in charge.

However, he won Premier League titles with Carlo Ancelotti and Antonio Conte too, the latter being in his final year as a Chelsea player.

The former defender has dabbled in management, however Terry is currently working with the Chelsea academy and helping mould the future players of the club.

John Terry names Pep Guardiola as only current manager he would ‘love’ to play under

When looking at the current list of Premier League managers, Maresca stands out as one of the most impressive, despite spending just one season in the top flight.

However, Terry told ‘The Joy of Football’ podcast that the only manager he would love to play for is Pep Guardiola, currently at Manchester City.

He said: “Pep’s probably the only one I’d love to play for Pep. I think he’s great. when you’re Man City, the way they play, I think is brilliant. I love the way that they’ve got the best players in the world, so they should be playing the best football. It’s the same as that Barcelona side.

“They play tiki-taka football. You can’t get near them, but you jump and they beat the press and they’re gone and you kind of don’t get back. Before you know it, you’re one nil down. Not everybody can play like Man City.”

Maresca moving away from Guardiola style

After working alongside the Spaniard for numerous years at City, it was clear that the Italian’s own venture into football was going to see him adopt some of the same philosophies.

However, as he enters his second campaign at Stamford Bridge, it is becoming clear that he is beginning to move away from this style of play as he creates his own identity.

Don Hutchinson said he had noticed Maresca ditching some of Guardiola’s trademarks that he had first brought to Chelsea, and the Blues were benefiting as a result.

The Chelsea boss will be looking to continue to put his own spin on the current club, with them tipped to launch a genuine Premier League title challenge this season.
