Exclusive: What Steve Parish and Liverpool are now actively discussing in talks over Marc Guehi

TBR Football can now confirm that Steve Parish is actively attempting to sell Marc Guehi to Liverpool.

The Crystal Palace chairman addressed the need for an imminent decision regarding the England international after the 1-0 win over Fredrikstad in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday, as he has already entered the final 12 months of his contract at Selhurst Park.

Parish told Channel 5: “If Marc wants to sign a contract, he can stay.

“If he doesn’t, we have to look at it. It’s a difficult situation, everyone has to sell players to comply with the rules. Players leaving on a free is not an ideal situation. That’s a situation that we will have to look at in the next days.”

With Marc Guehi unwilling to sign a new deal, sources now inform TBR Football that Steve Parish is attempting to push the Crystal Palace No.6 towards Liverpool before the transfer deadline on Monday 1st September.

Graeme Bailey now claims that the man born in Forest Hill is currently engaging in talks with Liverpool – and is hoping for the Reds to make a bid for the central defender.

We understand the decision from Liverpool will ultimately boil down to the price tag.

Parish is believed to want £40m for Guehi – who Crystal Palace signed from Chelsea for £18m back in July 2021 – which has a chance of happening, although Liverpool have been unwilling to spend above £30m.

That is an understandable stance, considering Arne Slot can sign the 25-year-old on a free transfer next summer, while the Dutchman already has Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and new signing Giovanni Leoni to lean on in the meantime.

Crystal Palace are on the lookout for potential Marc Guehi replacement

If Parish can convince Liverpool to spend £40m on Guehi, a new centre-back is expected to arrive despite the presence of Chadi Riad, Jefferson Lerma and Nathaniel Clyne as defensive cover.

We understand Crystal Palace admire Rennes No.97 Jeremy Jacquet.

The Frenchman is an option being considered internally at Selhurst Park, where Matt Hobbs is now aiding recruitment following the departure of Dougie Freedman in March.

Crystal Palace also looked at Ousmane Diomande earlier this summer, but a deal for the Sporting CP star could prove too costly to pull off with just over a week of the window remaining – especially after the Portuguese giants already cashed in on Viktor Gyokeres.
