The Patriots got out ahead of roster cuts by announcing 14 transactions on Friday.
Head coach Mike Vrabel announced the following cuts: QB Ben Wooldridge, RB Micah Bernard, RB Shane Watts, WR Phil Lutz, TE Cole Fotheringham, TE Jaheim Bell, G Sidy Sow, G Tyrese Robinson, DT Kyle Peko, DT Philip Blidi, LB Monty Rice, LB RJ Moten, CB Jordan Polk and CB Isaiah Bolden.
The Patriots now have 77 players on their 91-man roster. They must get down to 53 players by Tuesday at 4 p.m.
None of the Patriots’ initial 14 cuts are overly surprising, though Wooldridge, Fotheringham, Sow and Peko all started Thursday’s 42-10 preseason loss to the Giants.
Wooldridge went just 10-of-20 for 82 yards with a touchdown and interception while playing Thursday’s entire game. He also rushed twice for 12 yards. The Louisiana product was 26-of-45 for 269 yards with two touchdowns and one interception overall this preseason.
Polk has received a mention from Vrabel in recent weeks, but he was flagged twice for holding during Thursday night’s game.
Among players cut, only Bell, Sow, Robinson, Rice and Bolden spent time with the Patriots last season. Sow, a 2023 fourth-round pick, and Bolden, a 2023 seventh-round pick, were the longest-tenured players released.
Bernard, Watts, Lutz, Peko and Blidi were all signed recently to fill depth voids on the Patriots’ roster.
