Journalist claims Manchester City are now looking to sign £17m player - but Fabrizio Romano…

Manchester City are still looking to do more business before the transfer window ends on Monday 1st September.

Hugo Viana – Director of Football at the Etihad Stadium – is primarily focused on sales at the moment, with Galatasaray pushing to sign Manuel Akanji and Ederson.

Should the latter depart, Pep Guardiola would need a new goalkeeper to compete against James Trafford and Stefan Ortega, with Manchester City targeting Gianluigi Donnarumma of PSG.

However – according to Sacha Tavolieri – PSG are demanding too much money for the Italian, so Manchester City are now considering Senne Lammens of Royal Antwerp.

Manchester City exploring Senne Lammens deal

The reliable Belgian journalist claims that the Citizens are now looking at the Royal Antwerp No.91 after “facing difficulties” in talks with PSG over Donnarumma.

However, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Manchester United are the ones advancing in talks with Royal Antwerp over Lammens, who has already agreed to move to Old Trafford.

Discussions are now taking place over the structure of a €20m (£17.3m) fee for the Belgium U21 international – with talks “advancing” between the two clubs.

Romano adds that Manchester City are not interested in Lammens and are focused on bringing Donnarumma to England.

The respected journalist is not often wrong, although Tavolieri is from Belgium and usually specialises in news coming from the Belgian Pro League – adding an interesting dimension to the rumours.

Senne Lammens has already expressed excitement at Manchester United rumours

Lammens has the chance to become No.1 under Ruben Amorim quite easily as Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir both struggle, which would not be the case at Manchester City.

Therefore, a move to Old Trafford does seem more likely, and the 23-year-old has already spoken excitedly about mere links to Manchester United, let alone an actual move.

Lammens told Gazet van Antwerpen back in February: “The first time I heard (about Manchester United interest) I thought, wow. Immediately a world (renowned) team that follows you. That is special.

“Of course, I was also spoken to about it a lot and when I made a save in training, it was United this, United that (from colleagues)… it’s only positive. Especially because it’s the best competition in the world and my profile – my stature and way of playing – is similar to English football. You have to physically hold your own there and that suits me.”

In regards to Manchester City, a move for a new goalkeeper depends entirely on what Ederson chooses to do, whereas Manchester United are ready to make advancements on a new shot-stopper immediately.
