Serie A giants open to loan-to-buy move for 22-year-old Manchester United prospect, in constant …

Serie A champions Napoli are reportedly keen on signing 22-year-old Danish international Rasmus Hojlund from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by reputed Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Rasmus Hojlund is the subject of interest from Napoli. The Serie A champions are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window after losing Romelu Lukaku to a thigh injury. So, the struggling 22-year-old Manchester United centre-forward has emerged as a target for the Partenopei.

The 2024/25 Italian top-flight winners are ready to sign the Dane on a loan deal with a purchase obligation clause after initially considering an option to buy him following the first contacts. Napoli and Manchester United remain in touch to discuss a deal, and a move may be on the cards.

Rasmus Hojlund and his Manchester United woes

Rasmus Hojlund has seen his stock plummet at Manchester United despite a solid debut season after arriving from Atalanta in a big-money deal in August 2023. While the 22-year-old was excellent in the 2023/24 campaign, he was dreadful in his second term with the Red Devils, with the goals drying up.

The Danish international managed only ten goals and four assists in 52 appearances across all competitions, with just four strikes coming in the Premier League in 32 outings. However, the Manchester United striker’s stock in the market is high, with Napoli among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Serie A return beckons?

Napoli’s interest in Rasmus Hojlund is understandable. The Serie A champions are scouring the market for a striker after losing Romelu Lukaku to a hamstring injury. So, while Lorenzo Lucca has joined Napoli on loan from Udinese, Antonio Conte wants another centre-forward before the summer transfer window shuts down.

So, Hojlund has emerged as a viable target for the Partenopei, with the player open to moving to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. While Napoli initially preferred an option to buy the 22-year-old Dane after a loan deal during the first contacts with Manchester United, they are ready to insert a purchase obligation clause if the two clubs strike an agreement.

The Danish international has finally accepted his fate after initially resisting the thought of moving on from Manchester United. However, with Ruben Amorim omitting Hojlund against Arsenal last weekend, Hojlund must depart from Old Trafford in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if his career takes him to Napoli in the coming days.
