**Newcastle United are hoping to accelerate their chase for a new striker over the weekend, starting with a soft deadline today, according to reporter Craig Hope.**
Speaking from the Newcastle training ground on his YouTube channel, Craig Hope said that Newcastle want definitive answers on whether or not there's a deal to be done for Yoane Wissa by the end of today.
Keith Andrews has said that Wissa is back in training with the group, which does suggest there's a good chance that the 28-year-old remains at Brentford.
The situation, as things stand for Newcastle, seems to be that they would be happy just bringing in one striker before next week's transfer deadline, with Alexander Isak likely to stay put.
Newcastle are keen on Atletico Madrid's Alexander Sorloth
---------------------------------------------------------
The reality is that there just aren't any players available who could come close to filling the void that would be left if Alexander Isak were to leave.
It's now about replacing Callum Wilson, which is what Yoane Wissa's arrival would do, but while things remain up in the air with Wissa, the club are exploring other options.
Craig Hope doesn't believe there'll be a move for Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves despite Newcastle being keen; however, there is still a Norwegian striker on Newcastle's list in the form of Atletico Madrid's Alexander Sorloth.
Sorloth hit 20 goals in 35 games last season
--------------------------------------------
The 29-year-old is reportedly available this summer, which could make it an easier move for Newcastle to make than Wissa or Strand Larsen, who are not for sale.
Sorloth bagged 20 goals for Atletico last season in 35 appearances. He's tall, powerful, good in the air and knows where the goal is.
He's obviously on the older side and will turn 30 before the end of the year, but if the Magpies can pick him up for a reasonable fee, he should get us through this season at least.
