David Moyes piles on West Ham misery ahead of Everton's stadium opener

A historic day in Everton’s history is now just a matter of hours away with the first Premier League game set to be held at the new stadium.

The Hill Dickinson Stadium has already held a full-capacity friendly two weeks ago against AS Roma.

But David Moyes and his side will get their first experience of a Premier League game in their new home on Sunday afternoon.

Everton’s new stadium will increase in capacity over the coming years, but just over 52,000 will watch them take on Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend.

The friendly against Roma did not exactly bring the excitement that Everton fans would have hoped for, with a dull 1-0 loss being played out.

Moyes is expecting Sunday to be completely different, having dug out his former club as he suggests a big atmosphere will be on display.

David Moyes drops West Ham dig in Everton stadium claim

The Hill Dickinson Stadium will provide Everton a huge financial boost, with a lucrative naming rights deal already in place.

The 62-year-old manager will be hoping it also provides his players with a boost through creating an intimidating atmosphere.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Moyes has suggested he expects the new Everton stadium to completely blow West Ham’s out of the water.

“I think the big space and the big area, it’s a bit like everything else. I found it a little bit at the London Stadium. It’s completely different because it’s not so close to the pitch,” said Moyes

“It’s important that supporters who sit in certain areas keep together and we keep the fan base strong.”

Sean Dyche has concerns about Everton’s new stadium and having a squad worthy of competing in such a big stadium.

The fans can certainly play their part, and it is clear that Moyes already believes Everton have a much better stadium than what he had at West Ham.

As new stadiums go, many would argue that the London Stadium is not one that is renowned for its atmosphere and fan experience.

It’s not been a great start for West Ham, and this will only rub salt into the wounds.

David Moyes excited for Hill Dickinson Stadium opener

Earlier this summer, Moyes wanted Everton to train at the new stadium, so his players got an opportunity to settle into their new home.

Although this was not possible, Everton did arrange an extra friendly on the docks before their USA tour.

Work is still needed in the market, but Moyes has shared his excitement to lead Everton into their next chapter at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

“We’re all really looking forward to the new stadium. It’s been something that has been on the horizon for so long, and it’s not here,” said Moyes.

“We hope we can get used to it as quickly as possible. Everyone knows a new stadium is never that easy. But it’s something we’re all excited about.”
