Manchester United winger, Alejandro Garnacho, is one step closer to joining the FIFA Club World Cup champions, Chelsea. Manchester United’s head coach had already removed Garnacho from the main squad at the beginning of the season. From that day, Garnacho patiently kept waiting for his move to Chelsea this summer. Chelsea also didn’t lose hope and kept knocking on the door of Manchester United for months now. But the Manchester United club officials intentionally hold back the negotiations. Finally, it seems that both clubs have come to terms. Reporters are expecting Alejandro Garnacho to become a brand-new Chelsea player in the coming weeks.
Chelsea Rejected a Swap Deal for Alejandro Garnacho
Both these clubs tried every possible way to seal the deal. But nothing was working out for these two legacy clubs. Earlier, Manchester United offered Chelsea a potential swap deal in the negotiations, but the Blues immediately rejected that offer. According to some trusted sources, Manchester United wanted to include Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos in the deal. Ruben Amorim likes the profile of the young midfielder and requested the management to give it a try. But Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has clearly said ‘no’ to the proposal as he needs the Brazilian in his core team. As a result of this, Chelsea made it quite clear that Andrey Santos was not for sale. Again, the negotiations took a stumble. Chelsea management had recently renewed the contract of Andrey Santos who was on a loan run last season. He travelled with the Chelsea squad for the CWC and put up a solid performance. Enzo considers him a decent backup option of Enzo Fernandez. On the other hand, the Argentine winger has played 93 matches in the EPL for the Red Devils. In the 2020-21 season, he introduced himself with a goal assisted by none other than Cristiano Ronaldo. But after that breakthrough season, Garnacho has only experienced downfall. With just 16 goals and 10 assists, he went down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim. Although Amorim tried to use him sometimes, Garnacho consistently failed to make an impact on the pitch. Just after the end of the horrendous season, Amorim told Garnacho to find a new club.

Everything Sorted for Garnacho Except the Jersey Number
Fabrizio Romano has already confirmed to the football fans that Chelsea are going to sign the Argentine international very soon. The Chelsea supporters can’t wait as this saga has been going on since January, when Serie A champions Napoli were also behind the player. But finally, they hope that the club will announce the long-overdue announcement of Alejandro Garnacho in the coming week. If Garnacho arrives, he will surely become a key player on the left wing. But reports have come out that Chelsea officials are having trouble in giving Garnacho a new jersey number. When he first joined the Red Devils, Garnacho wore jersey number 49 on his back. After the promising season, he got shirt number 17 on his back. Since then, he has donned the number 17 on his back both for Manchester United and Argentina. Interestingly, Andrey Santos now wears that shirt number at Chelsea. Other than that, jersey numbers 7,10 and 11 are all already occupied by crucial players. Amid this dilemma, the Blues are hoping to give their ‘new’ footballer his ‘old’ shirt number back.
Garnacho Saga: Is It Finally Over or Not?
Multiple clubs have come and shown their interest in Alejandro Garnacho over the past few weeks. But Garnacho has given his utmost priority to the Blues. He hasn’t thought twice before rejecting offers from the Saudi clubs. Even Napoli got fed up and backed off from the deal. A time came when Alejandro Garnacho became a ‘pseudo free agent’. But he patiently waited for the right time and Chelsea have now almost completed his move from Manchester United. If nothing goes wrong again, Alejandro Garnacho will begin his fresh journey from the Stamford Bridge.
