Confirmed: Karl Hein joins Werder Bremen on loan

Arsenal have confirmed that Karl Hein has joined Bundesliga side Werder Bremen on a season long loan deal.

The Estonia international, 23, had been linked with several clubs this summer as he pushed for regular game time following last season’s stint with Real Valladolid.

While Hein signed a new contract at the Emirates last summer, there was little prospect of him challenging David Raya for the number one spot.

The Gunners brought in Neto on loan from Bournemouth last season and have since added Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea to further bolster the position.

Tommy Setford is expected to play the role of the number 3 keeper for the season ahead, and Hein’s departure is only the third of the summer so far – following Nuno Tavares’ sale to Lazio, and Marquinhos joining Cruzeiro.

Andrea Berta has still to make a significant sale despite a summer outlay that will go over £250m when the Ebere Eze deal is confirmed, so the last 10 days of the window will be important for the new Sporting Director and for the club to balance the books a little

Best of luck to Karl in Germany.
