Casemiro has opened up about his future at Manchester United amid talk that the midfielder could be heading for the exit door this summer. He joined the club in the summer of 2022, joining as part of a £70million deal between United and Real Madrid.
Things haven’t exactly gone to plan for Casemiro at United, with the Red Devils having trended downwards ever since his arrival at Old Trafford. The Brazilian was publicly called out by Jamie Carragher last season after he was hooked at half-time during a game between United and Liverpool.
Since the arrival of Ruben Amorim at the club, Casemiro’s performances have improved somewhat, but it hasn’t stopped speculation surrounding his future from cropping up. Alas, with less than two weeks until the transfer window shuts, Casemiro has addressed the rumours head-on, insisting he’s happy with life at United right now.
Speaking to the club website, he said: "I am very happy here. My family is happy here. I enjoy every day at Carrington and at Old Trafford. If people talk from the outside, that’s fine, it doesn’t interest me. I just want to focus on winning."
Casemiro was no stranger to success during his time with Real Madrid, but despite winning two pieces of silverware in the domestic cups since arriving at United, their league form has been left wanting. When quizzed on what’s gone wrong, he said: "It’s complicated.
“Everyone can have an opinion. In the last few years, we have reached several finals, such as the Europa League [last season] and the thing missing is to win. Few clubs win these cups and we need to continue thinking about winning these trophies and to continue improving."
Casemiro continued: "Manchester United always has to think about the victory. I’m not going to say that losing is okay, we have to win. Manchester United always has to win. I think we have shown good moments, and we have played much better today, but we have to look for the victory. We are on the right path now. We have a good connection and that’s the path we are taking.”
United have been linked to midfield arrivals, most notably Carlos Baleba from Brighton. However, the Seagulls’ valuation, which is believed to be in the region of £120m, is said to be outside of United’s price range, with Amorim and co. forced to look at alternative options.
