Liverpool fans travelling to St James’ Park on Monday evening are in for a hostile atmosphere from the home support.
Tensions have been high in the North East after Liverpool submitted an offer for Alexander Isak at the beginning of August, which was subsequently rejected by the Magpies.
Eddie Howe was forced into selecting Anthony Gordon to lead the line as Newcastle United stumbled to a 0-0 draw against the ten men of Aston Villa.
The story is writing itself at St James’ Park – TBR Football understands Isak is confident he will join the Reds this summer, and he will certainly not be named in the matchday squad on Monday evening, barring a dramatic U-turn.

His decision has sparked fury among Newcastle supporters, which is now seemingly directed towards Liverpool, as the Magpies’ faithful declare their one wish for the clash between the sides.

Joelinton has developed a reputation in the Premier League for not shying away from fouls and potentially dangerous tackles, with Gordon once claiming the Brazilian likes to fight in training.
Therefore, the Newcastle supporters have called upon their midfield workhorse to deploy the same rough tactics when Liverpool turn up on Monday.
However, the Reds supporters are lapping it up on social media and have pounced on the opportunity to poke fun at their opposite number. One fan wrote: “The quote tweets to this are hilarious. You’d think they’ve got Francis Ngannou in midfield; it’s Joelinton who dyes his hair blonde. Weirdos.”
Whereas another Liverpool supporter wrote: “(The) Joelinton stuff is the cringiest thing I’ve heard.”
Newcastle players are guilty of leaning into the stereotype surrounding the 29-year-old – Joe Willock once said he’d hate to fight Joelinton.
One supporter expressed his confusion as to why the trend started to begin with, writing: “Not quite sure what Liverpool making a bid for Isak has to do with wanting Joelinton to end Florian Wirtz’s career with a leg breaker, but there we have it. Strange bunch.”
While it is understandable to some degree, Newcastle supporters have a lot of frustration towards the Reds. It is truly bizarre how many who support the North East club are wishing for Joelinton to get a red card in the match.
Nevertheless, one Liverpool supporter responded by simply pointing out the player’s record against the Reds. One wrote: “Joelinton’s played against Liverpool 12 times for Newcastle. He’s lost eight times and won once.”
Liverpool fans question Joelinton’s reputation
One supporter made sure the Newcastle fans know that their constant calls for Joelinton to steal the headlines at St James’ Park are falling on deaf ears.
He wrote: “Why does Newcastle Twitter (X) act like Joelinton is some sort of hard man rather than the player who gets away with far too many dirty tackles?”
Remarkably, Joelinton averages 0.24 yellow cards per game across his Magpies career and has never received a red card.
Another fan wrote: “When did Joelinton become the toughest fella in football? He’s just a big lump that’s got a cob on because he’s a failed striker.”
