The major Newcastle United and Liverpool transfer swap deal that could finally see Alexander…

Liverpool have been long-term admirers of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak and still have time to land their man

Liverpool stormed to the Premier League title last season ahead of Arsenal. They will be be hoping to do the same again this time around, with the Gunners along with Manchester City expected to be stronger. The Reds have been very active on the transfer front over recent months to bolster their ranks.

They have delved into the market to snap up the likes of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Hugo Ekitike, among others. The Merseyside outfit have until the end of the window to complete any final bits of business. The deadline is on Monday 1st September at a slightly earlier time than usual at 7pm.

Liverpool keen on Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak

Liverpool’s interest in Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has been well documented over recent times. He has been prolific in the North East over recent years and is in limbo at the moment. The forward has made it clear that he wants to leave for a new challenge somewhere else.

Isak, 25, would be ideal for the Reds and would significantly boost their attacking department. The Sweden international, who has 52 caps to his name, is a proven goal scorer at the top level and snapping him up is a no-brainer for Arne Slot. He moved over to England back in 2022 and has since adapted with ease to life at St James’ Park.

Newcastle came calling for his services three years ago and he has since scored a whopping 62 goals in 109 games in all competitions, 27 of which came in the last campaign. Prior to his switch to the Magpies, the ex-Borussia Dortmund man found the net on 44 occasions in 132 outings for Real Sociedad. He started out at AIK in his native country and hasn’t looked back since.

Liverpool are well stocked up with options at the top end of the pitch. Ekitike has made a positive impression since his transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt. However, they can’t turn down the chance to land Isak now the door has swung open to sign him, especially with there being the risk that he could end up going somewhere else.

Liverpool should offer Newcastle United swap deal

In an attempt to tempt Newcastle into selling, Liverpool should offer them Federico Chiesa as part of a swap deal plus cash offer. The Italian has struggled for regular game time since his move around 12 months ago and should look to look. He isn’t guaranteed regular minutes and a change of scene would do him good.

The Reds snapped up the Genoa-born man to add more competition and depth to their attacking department. Although he will be a useful person to have in and around the dressing room, he rarely starts. Therefore, a departure wouldn’t be a surprise at all.

Chiesa made 14 appearances last term, only six of which came in the league, and he scored twice. He managed to bag against Brentford last weekend for Slot’s side but again could only manage a place on the bench. Prior to his move, he was a key player for Juventus in Serie A but he hasn’t been able to make the impact he would have wanted to at Anfield.

Despite it feeling like he has been around forever, he is still only 27. He still has plenty of years left ahead of him in the game and has things that he will want to achieve. A switch to Newcastle would be a good one for him and would give him the platform to show what he can do on a consistent basis.

Eddie Howe needs as many players at his disposal as possible, especially at the top end of the pitch. Isak’s impending exit will leave a lot of goals to be needed filling. They are in the Champions League which should help them with their recruitment drive.
