Chiefs Predicted to Swing Trade for Former Pro Bowl RB

The Kansas City Chiefs have never really had an explosive rushing attack under Patrick Mahomes, and they have been perfectly fine with that. Heck, they have made won three Super Bowls and made five of them over the last six years.

But perhaps the Chiefs would stand to strongly benefit from improving their backfield and providing Mahomes with more support heading into 2025?

Kansas City has Isiah Pacheco penciled in as its starting running back, but there are undoubtedly questions after that. So it should come as no surprise that the Chiefs are reportedly seeking help at the position.

Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports does envision Kansas City swinging a trade to rectify its backfield situation, and he is predicting the Chiefs to acquire Miles Sanders in a deal with the Dallas Cowboys.

"Once a Pro Bowl playmaker for the rival Philadelphia Eagles, Sanders has struggled to separate from a slew of others in Dallas' remade backfield, including Javonte Williams and rookie Jaydon Blue," Benjamin wrote. "That's partly due to a summer knee injury. He's been something of a stop-and-start option for years now. Still, it's possible another team will value his 56 career starts, plucking him from behind Williams to fill a backup gig opened by injury."

Here's the thing: Sanders is not even remotely close to the player he once was. He racked up 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns during his final season with the Eagles in 2022, leading to a Pro Bowl appearance. He then fizzled out with the Carolina Panthers, managing 432 and 205 rushing yards, respectively, in 2023 and 2024.

But perhaps the 28-year-old could see a resurgence in a backup role in Kansas City? Sanders has also proven to be a decent pass-catcher in the past, so Mahomes could utilize Sanders on screens and checkdowns.

Sanders won't be anyone's favorite choice at this point, but it's not like the Chiefs have a ton of other options available.
