New York Jets Rookie Mason Taylor Has 'NFL DNA,' Poised For Strong Season

Mason Taylor has a lot of eyes on him going into his rookie year with the New York Jets.

As the regular season draws closer, report cards were put together for every player selected in the draft. The Jets are very excited about Taylor and believe he can be a promising piece of their offense this year.

"He will have a major role on offense," wrote ESPN's Rich Cimini. "The coaches view him as a true two-way tight end and believe his blocking is better than advertised. Taylor is healthy after missing more than a week with a high-ankle sprain. Jets coach Aaron Glenn likes to say that Taylor, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor, has the right DNA for the NFL."

Taylor didn't show much in the preseason so far, but the Jets aren't worried about that. As long he gets through Friday's game against the Eagles fully healthy, that's all everyone is focused on.

The rookie tight end was dominant at LSU and proved to be one of the better tight ends in school history. He finished his career with 129 receptions for 1,308 yards and six touchdowns.

While Glenn has been adamant about the Jets being a run-first team, Taylor will likely be one of the top targets in the passing game for Justin Fields. The Jets don't have a true WR2 in their offense behind Garrett Wilson which sets up Taylor well to see a lot of targets as early as Week 1.
