It has been an underwhelming offseason thus far for the Golden State Warriors as they have failed to make any additions to their roster outside of the second round of the 2025 draft.
Golden State was expected to be aggressive this summer to upgrade their roster around their star trio of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green to try and chase a championship next season.

Instead, the Warriors have had an ongoing saga with restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga that has cost them multiple free agent targets.
Despite Kuminga’s ongoing situation, it has been reported that Golden State does have deals in place with multiple free agents that will be finalized after Kuminga makes a decision regarding his future.
Warriors’ pursuit of LeBron James receives major update
While the Warriors are still looking to make moves in free agency, they are reportedly also still looking to land another NBA legend via trade as they are still targeting Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James.

On Friday, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel provided an update regarding the Warriors’ pursuit of James as he reported that nothing has changed on the Lakers’ front as they remain uninterested in moving James before the start of next season.

This is a massive update by Siegel but one that is not too surprising as the Lakers have not been interested in moving James at all this offseason despite him entering the final year of his contract in Los Angeles.
Of course, the Lakers could change their mind before the trade deadline, especially if the future Hall of Famer signals that he does not want to return to Los Angeles next season but even if that is the case, it would be a very difficult trade for the Warriors to pull off.
For Golden State to acquire James via trade, they would have to move on from either Butler or Green along with other key role players to not only meet Los Angeles’ likely asking price but also match salaries.

Due to this, it may be better for the Warriors to instead look elsewhere to potentially add another star or they could keep their current core together after they impressed during the second half of last season.
Of course, pairing Curry and James alongside each other has reportedly been what the Warriors have been aiming to do for multiple seasons now but with Siegel’s report, it appears as though they will have to wait until he hits free agency next summer.
