Pacers part ways with coach

The Indiana Pacers and longtime assistant coach Mike Weinar, who helped lead the team to the 2025 NBA Finals, have mutually parted ways.

The Indiana Pacers and assistant coach Mike Weinar have mutually agreed to part ways, the team officially announced.

Weinar, 41, had been a Pacers assistant under Rick Carlisle since 2021. Before landing in Indiana, he spent 13 years (2008–2021) as an assistant coach with the Dallas Mavericks, winning an NBA championship with the team in 2011.

Earlier in his career, Weinar was a student manager for the University of Florida men's basketball program from 2003 to 2006 and then a graduate assistant from 2006 to 2008.

During his time at Florida, he was part of back-to-back national championship teams in 2005–06 and 2006–07.

While the Pacers and Weinar have parted ways, the team recently agreed on a multi-year extension with head coach Rick Carlisle. The two coaches previously led Indiana to the 2025 NBA Finals and had worked together since 2008.

"Mike Weinar has been a trusted friend and loyal colleague for 17+ years. ... Mike also played a major role in this year's historic Finals run with the Pacers," said Carlisle. "Mike's exemplary character as a father, husband, and man has been evident to me over nearly two decades."
