Jadon Sancho has been in talks with a move to Serie A club Roma for over a week now, with a stalemate hit.
Man United have seen several summer transfer sagas this year under Ruben Amorim, with the manager wanting to sell a number of players who are no longer in his plans at Old Trafford.
Jadon Sancho is one such player. He returned from his loan deal at Chelsea, but couldn’t agree on personal terms with the Blues, meaning they had to pay a £5m compensation fee as they didn’t fulfil the £25m obligation to buy in his contract.
Sancho is now in talks over a deal with Roma in Italy, with the Serie A club very keen to sign the 25-year-old. His wages were the biggest issue, but it now seems that there is a different stumbling block for the winger.
Sancho’s agent blocking a move to Roma
It has been reported that Man United and Roma have made a “full agreement” for a deal for Sancho, with a fee of £15m reported for the potential deal. It won’t provide United with much of a cash boost, but it will get Sancho off their wage books which is good considering he’s on £250,000 per week at Old Trafford.
Reports in Italy are claiming that Roma have agreed to pay Sancho’s wage demands, but the stalemate now is more to do with his agent. According to Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport, Roma is refusing to pay the £8.6 million commission that Sancho’s agent requested.
The reports are saying that Roma are hoping that United will help contribute as they want to force a deal through, but there is no indication whether this will happen, or Sancho’s entourage will budge on their asking price for commission, which could provide a new stalemate in negotiations.
Sancho’s agents risk blowing the deal
Seeing as Roma are already pushing to afford a deal for Sancho, the extortionate commission fee could be the last straw as far as the Italian club are concerned. The fact that they are still pushing for a deal, must mean that Sancho is by far their first choice target.
However, the reports in Italy do claim that Roma are beginning to consider other targets, which could be a huge blow to any potential Sancho deal. The same report names Chelsea winger Tyrique George as a target for Roma, as the Blues player is available this summer on a loan-to-buy deal, like Sancho’s at Chelsea last year.
George is a younger, more promising option for Roma, and so if the Sancho deal continues to break down, the Italian club could quickly turn their attention to George, leaving Sancho back at square one, and heading into the last week of the transfer window, no closer to leaving Old Trafford.
That would be bad for the player, and bad for Man United due to his lack of game time, and the Red Devils having to pay his wages.
