Steelers release former West Virginia guard

The Pittsburgh Steelers released 11 players today, the team officially announced. One of those was former WVU offensive lineman Doug Nester.

Nester, a West Virginia native and former four star recruit out of the class of the class of 2019, began his career with Virginia Tech, but transferred to WVU following the 2020 season. He spent three years in Morgantown, playing 2,277 offensive snaps during that time. He was a two time Academic All-Big 12 Conference First Team selection (2022 and 2023). He made 52 career starts.

He went unselected in the 2024 NFL Draft, but was a UDFA who signed with the Vikings following the draft. He was waived in August of that year, but landed with the Steelers practice squad a few days later.

He signed a reserve/future contract with Pittsburgh in January of this year. Now, he'll be looking for a new home.
