Fabrizio Romano has provided a fresh update on Newcastle United’s interest in Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson.

The Magpies are keen to strengthen their attack before the end of the transfer window, amid the ongoing Alexander Isak saga.

The Sweden international is currently training alone as he pushes for a move to Liverpool.

With Isak currently unavailable for selection and Callum Wilson having left the club at the end of his contract, Anthony Gordon has started the season as Newcastle’s central attacking option.

Manager Eddie Howe is eager to add at least one new striker before the window closes. Several names have been linked with a move, with Jackson the latest.

The 22-year-old joined Chelsea from Villarreal in the summer of 2023 and has scored 30 goals in 81 appearances across all competitions

He helped the club win the UEFA Conference League and the Club World Cup last season.

Romano has provided the latest update on Newcastle’s pursuit of Nicolas Jackson, confirming the club’s continued interest.

He said: “Newcastle United have always been attentive and interested in the Nico Jackson situation, and calls also took place this week to discuss eventual terms; it’s a name we should keep on their shortlist.”

Jackson is also attracting interest from several clubs, including Aston Villa, Napoli, and AC Milan.

Romano added: In the last 48 hours, Aston Villa have made huge efforts to sign Jackson with Unai Emery driving their interest; he was Nico’s coach at Villarreal and would love to reunite with Jackson in the Premier League, but no Champions League football could be a factor to consider with Jackson assessing all his options ahead of a final decision.

“Italian clubs had also called in the recent days, including Napoli and AC Milan, before they focused on Rasmus Hojlund and Victor Boniface instead, because the Jackson deal is seen as too expensive for them; but it’s not only Aston Villa in this race, because movements are taking place in the background.

“Jackson will meet with his agents in the next hours to decide more on his future.

“Talks are entering crucial stages. One to watch, definitely, also to unlock Alejandro Garnacho and/or Xavi Simons moving to Stamford Bridge as soon as possible.”
