Manchester United make enquiry for South American from Chelsea

Manchester United have enquired about Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos while holding talks over Alejandro Garnacho.

Manchester United and Chelsea have been in talks over the potential transfer of Alejandro Garnacho. During those discussions, the Red Devils also expressed interest in a Chelsea midfield talent. According to Ben Jacobs via GiveMeSport, United have enquired about the availability of Andrey Santos.

Jacobs on United’s interest in Andrey Santos

While speaking to The United Stand, Jacobs said via GMS: “What I can tell you is that when discussions have been ongoing for Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea, Andrey Santos has been spoken about.

“I don’t think it’s going to lead anywhere, because Chelsea don’t want to sell. That’s another player, though, that Manchester United appreciate. It’s nothing more than that at this stage.”

Santos came up the ranks at Vasco da Gama and made a name for himself while playing for their first team. His impressive rise caught the attention of Chelsea, who struck a deal for him at the start of 2023. He continued at the Brazilian club for another six months before moving to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

The 21-year-old has already featured for the Brazil national team, and he is quite highly rated by people at Chelsea. He further enhanced his reputation during a loan spell at Strasbourg. He featured in a total of 45 matches for the French club and ended up contributing towards 17 goals.

Apart from his creativity and goal-scoring prowess, his ability to control the tempo caught the eye of quite a few top clubs. He is back at his parent club and is expected to be an important part of their first-team squad this season.

United enquire about the Chelsea sensation

But, since he is unlikely to be a regular starter for the Blues, United tried their luck during Alejandro Garnacho negotiations. The United winger is keen on joining Chelsea, but the Red Devils haven’t been easy to negotiate with.

During those talks, the Manchester-based giants enquired about Santos’ availability. While they have significantly bolstered their attack, Ruben Amorim is keen on adding a new central midfielder. Brighton’s Carlos Baleba was their top target, but the Seagulls had no intentions of selling him this summer.

Now they are keen on signing Chelsea’s Santos, but even the Blues do not want to sell the 21-year-old. He is a key part of their long-term plans. As a result, United will have to look elsewhere for a new midfielder.
