Ruthless Chelsea pile on the agony for humiliated West Ham and an under-pressure Potter

There were chants of 'There's only one Graham Potter' but they only came from the away end.

Blues fans relished taunting their former boss and their east London rivals - though on this evidence maybe rivals is too strong a word as the teams seem to inhabit different worlds right now.

It was just about the perfect summary of a match which underlined the sharply contrasting directions of travel for these cross-town clubs. One is rammed full of cash, trophies, expensive new players and ambitions to win the league - the other is in the doldrums and already hearing alarm bells.

The 3-0 drubbing on the opening day at Sunderland was not a good sign for the Irons. Another abject defensive performance already raises questions about their hopes this season. You do not have to be an expert pundit to forecast a grim struggle ahead without reinforcements. This was about as disappointing as a first home game of the season could be.

Having grabbed an unexpected early lead, Potter's men were unable to build on it and folded like a pack of cards after Chelsea started stroking the ball around the park.

Few would have bet against the silky skills of a no10 to strike the first blow. But it wasn't Cole Palmer - who withdrew from the starting XI after the warm up.

Lucas Paqueta reminded us all that there is a pretty decent play-maker in East London too. The Brazilian was a shadow of his former self last season - seemingly weighed down by betting allegations levelled at him.

With that cloud lifted, perhaps now Hammers fans will see the best of him again - assuming he is not snatched away in the final week of the transfer window.

Paqueta, who turns 28 this week, scored only five times last term and hadn't netted since the January win against Fulham but he took advantage of Chelsea carelessly giving the ball away and a few strides forward was followed by a superb angled drive from outside the left edge of the area past a helpless Robert Sanchez.

Talk about a false dawn. The feelgood factor generated by that moment was soon obliterated and the London Stadium soon adopted a funereal air for home fans - who are normally so raucous when it comes to this derby.

First, Joao Pedro headed an equaliser after Marc Cucurella had flicked on a corner at the near post and moments after Niclas Fullkrug had a second Hammers goal chalked off after a VAR recall for offside in the build up, Chelsea scored again when Pedro Neto ghosted in at the far post to convert a cross from Joao Pedro after Trevoh Chalobah's clattering tackle had won the ball off Paqueta just outside the 18-yard box.

Chelsea had seized the initiative and were just getting started. A great burst into the box by Brazilian starlet Estevao carved the Hammers open again and his low cross was put away from no distance by Enzo Fernandez.

The Argentinian missed a great chance to make four - firing over after West Ham had been pulled apart once more - but another dagger to the heart was not long in coming and after Mads Hermansen had flapped feebly at a corner, Moises Caicedo pounced to send the ball over the live via the underside of the bar.

Not long after, a corner from the opposite side again has the Hammers keeper all at sea and Chalobah was on hand to cash in, making it five. Boos rang out. Many a home fan headed for the exits, though there was still half an hour to play. It was probably a wise choice. Not even Jarrod Bowen could rouse the team or the emptying stands.

**Hammers:** (3-4-1-2) Hermansen - Todibo (Potts h/t), Kilman, Aguerd - Wan-Bissaka, Ward-Prowse, Soucek (Walker-Peters 69), Diouf - Paqueta - Bowen, Fullkrug (Wilson h/t)

**Blues:** (4-2-3-1) Sanchez - Gusto (James 69), Tosin, Chalobah (Fofana 69), Cucurella (Hato 69) - Fernandez, Caidcedo - Estevao (Gittens 77), Joao Pedro, Pedro Neto - Delap (Santos 62)
