Patriots Rookie TreVeyon Henderson Compared to Lions Star Jahmyr Gibbs

Rookies are preparing for the final preseason games and shifting gears to get ready for their first regular season games of their career.

TreVeyon Henderson has high expectations from the New England Patriots this season, and he's drawing comparisons to Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

"Henderson has a different gear the Patriots haven't had in the backfield in a long time," wrote ESPN's Mike Reiss. "He returned the opening kickoff of the preseason 100 yards for a touchdown. In the second game, he had an impressive 8-yard TD run in which he sliced through the left side despite little daylight. Using the Lions as a template, he'll be the Patriots' version of Jahmyr Gibbs, with Rhamondre Stevenson filling the David Montgomery role."

New England has been searching for a running back of Henderson's caliber for years, but it finally lands the former Ohio State Buckeye. In college, Henderson rushed for 3,761 yards and helped lead the Buckeyes to the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship.

Patriots fans have already seen his athleticism on full display in the preseason, and Henderson is ready to prove himself in the regular season.

If he is truly the Jahmyr Gibbs of New England's running back tandem, he will see a lot of carries as early as Week 1. The Patriots will be relying on his speed to help set up Drake Maye and the passing game. Henderson may not see as much goal line work if that is the case, but he will still get a lot of touches in his first year.
