Through two preseason games before the start of the 2025 NFL Season, the Los Angeles Rams have a few rookies impressing. Running back Jarquez Hunter has rushed for 96 yards and offensive lineman Willie Lampkin has had impressive showings.

But the Rams have yet to see their first selection in this year’s draft play due to injuries. Los Angeles selected tight end Terrance Ferugson with the 46th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, who has yet to make his preseason debut due to a groin injury.

Rams head coach Sean McVay confirmed to the media that Ferguson will play this weekend against the Cleveland Browns in the team’s last preseason matchup before the start of the regular season.

With his debut, Sports Illustrated’s Jared Feinberg lists the Rams rookie TE as a player to watch for on Saturday.

Sean McVay didn’t go into detail on how much Terrance Ferguson will be played against the Browns.

This will be Ferguson’s first action as a professional, allowing the Rams to see how he plays against other NFL talent.

“This one should excite Rams fans. Ferguson is slated as the future at the tight end position and was a talented prospect out of Oregon. He may only play for a few offensive series, but they will be well-received regardless, as the team’s first draft pick this year makes his preseason debut,” Feinberg wrote.

“The biggest thing I want to see from Ferguson on Saturday is if he can maintain the point of attack as a run blocker. His blocking ability wasn’t necessarily a flaw, but it was an area that needed some work at this level. Should Ferguson unlock the potential he has as a blocker while combining that with his pass-catching prowess, the Rams offense could be scary in future seasons.”

Ferguson getting some snaps in the preseason finale also allows him to make “rookie mistakes” before the start of the season. If he were to carry those mistakes into the regular season, the Rams have 3 other tight ends who won’t make those mistakes.

Realistic Preseason Debut

The Los Angeles Rams used a Day 2 pick on Terrance Ferguson, showing how high they value him not just for the present, but for the future.

As mentioned earlier, Ferguson could play maybe a drive or two, but nothing too much to pressure the tight end before the regular season.

Ferguson is coming back from an injured groin injury. To give him a lot of snaps after returning from his injury the same week won’t allow him to get the best recovery.

The tight end will realistically play in at most two drives and will have a reception to gain first-hand experience in an NFL environment.
