A leading member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid is set to take to the pitch in a new position moving forward.
That’s according to journalist Javier Rodríguez Pascual, who points towards Rodrygo as the player in question.
Wide-man Rodrygo has of course endured a tumultuous summer to date.
After struggling for game time at the Club World Cup, the Brazilian has been [heavily tipped for a Real Madrid exit](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6469414/2025/07/03/real-madrid-rodrygo-transfer-latest/?source=emp_shared_article).
With just over a week remaining in the summer transfer window, however, Rodrygo remains a Blancos player.
And with as much in mind, the 24-year-old recently sent a request the way of new manager Xabi Alonso.
Not only that, but the request, it is understood, has since been granted.
As per a report from the aforementioned Javier Rodríguez Pascual:
‘Rodrygo: The idea is that he plays minutes in Oviedo. His position is now that of a left winger. That’s what he asked Xabi for, and that will be his role. He doesn’t want to play on the right anymore.’

> Su posición ya es la de extremo izquierdo. Así se lo pidió a Xabi, y ese será su rol. No quiere jugar más por la derecha. [@espn](https://twitter.com/espn?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)
