Intriguing Knicks forward named a candidate to earn a two-way deal

As the New York Knicks continue to fill out their roster for next season, some of the team’s young talent is in the mix to earn a two-way spot.

[The Athletic’s James L. Edwards III](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6554889/2025/08/18/knicks-roster-2025-rotations-lineup-predictions/) mentioned the Knicks’ lone draft pick from this year, Mohamed Diawara, as a candidate to earn a two-way deal.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if New York ended up signing second-round pick Mohamed Diawara to one of its three two-way spots,” Edwards wrote. “I’ve heard rumblings of that potentially happening since summer league.”

Diawara was impressive during his Summer League stint

-----------------------------------------------------

Diawara was drafted with the 51st overall selection in the 2025 NBA Draft, and impressed the Knicks throughout the Summer League with his combination of size and skill. Diawara averaged 7.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists in four appearances, while also displaying his versatility on both ends of the floor. While some initially thought Diawara was a reach of a draft pick, and a long-term project, he showed to me more capable than previously thought throughout Summer League.

The 20-year-old spent last season with France’s Cholet Basket, where he averaged 6.1 points, and 3.2 rebounds per game while shooting 44 percent from the field, and 28 percent from three-point range.

Should the Knicks grant him a contract, it’ll show the level of confidence they have that Diawara will continue to grow and improve as a player. Getting some time in the G-League, and with the big league club can be beneficial for his development going forward.
