Packers trade idea for former Penn State star named 'worst on the internet today'

Former Penn State football star Micah Parsons is in the midst of a rough contract dispute with the Dallas Cowboys.

Parsons is widely considered to be one of the best pass rushers in the NFL, but negotiations have gone south between him and Dallas. He has requested a trade, and both sides have exchanged jabs in the media, putting into question whether a deal will ever get done.

Every team in football would be interested in adding the star edge rusher to their team, and trade ideas have run rampant all over the internet since the whole debacle began. But this particular hypothetical trade was deemed one of the worst on the internet today.

A Packers Overpay for Parsons Deemed 'Worst Trade Idea'

Andrew Buller-Russ of sportsnaut.com released an article stating [five of the worst trade ideas](https://sports.yahoo.com/article/5-worst-nfl-trade-ideas-181850891.html) he's seen recently, and Bleacher Report's [pitch](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/25240243-1-trade-each-nfl-team-should-propose-2025-season) for the Green Bay Packers to acquire Parsons stood out to him.

Green Bay Packers receive: Micah Parsons

Dallas Cowboys receive: Rashan Gary, 2026 first and third-round picks, 2027 second and fourth-round picks

"The last time an NFL team traded a first-round pick for a defender was when the Indianapolis Colts acquired DeForest Buckner from the 49ers, but this is a lot more than just a first-round pick." Wrote Buller-Russ.

"Plus, the Packers would still need to make Parsons one of, if not the NFL’s highest-paid defender, in addition to parting with four draft picks plus a valued Pro Bowl starter who’s just one year older than the Cowboys pass-rusher. Couldn’t they offer much less for Trey Hendrickson?"

While trading for Parsons would certainly transform Green Bay's defense, there are alternative options that may not empty the farm as Buller-Russ suggests. The Penn State product would also need to be paid top-of-the-market pass rusher money, and without future draft picks, the Packers would have difficulty building out their team in 2025 and beyond.

Like Muller-Russ says, if the Packers want to upgrade their pass rush, it may cost less draft capital and certainly less financial commitment to go after the Cincinnati Bengals' disgruntled edge, Trey Hendrickson. While not the franchise cornerstone Parsons is, Hendrickson would be a short-term upgrade without the weight of having to mortgage Green Bay's future.
