With Callum Wilson leaving the club and Alexander Isak’s potential exit looming, Newcastle United are under pressure to secure a proven goal scorer.
Time is running out, and they may need to move quickly.
Eddie Howe admitted Newcastle face a “lose-lose” situation with Isak but believes the 25-year-old will be welcomed back by teammates if he stays.
“I think it is a lose-lose situation to a degree for us because I don’t think we can come out of this winning in any situation,” Howe said.
“That is why I have said all summer, it is a difficult situation for the club to manage.
“We love Alex in the sense of what he has done for this football club since he has been here, what he has contributed, what he has given, how professional he’s been and this has just been an unfortunate few months that looks like it is coming to an end.
“And it will come to an end pretty quickly and then we can focus on the football again.”
Newcastle’s efforts have already hit a snag, with a £40m bid for Brentford striker Yoane Wissa rejected, further complicating matters for the Tyneside club.
Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson has also been linked with moves to several clubs, including Newcastle United and Bayern Munich.
The Senegal international has faced criticism at Stamford Bridge for his goal return, netting just 10 times in the 2024-25 Premier League season, sparking calls for a more reliable No. 9.
Jackson scored 17 goals in all competitions in his first season under Mauricio Pochettino in 2023-24, but opinions remain divided.
Having fallen out of Chelsea’s plans, Jackson has been told to seek a new club and was not in the squad for Friday’s clash with West Ham.
Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed that the Bundesliga champions are not in the race to sign him this summer.
Eberl said: “Nicolas Jackson is no topic for us.”
