Newcastle United began their Premier League season without a recognised centre-forward, amid uncertainty over Alexander Isak’s future.
Eddie Howe was forced to deploy winger Anthony Gordon in the striking role as the Magpies failed to break down a 10-man Aston Villa in a goalless draw last Saturday.
The club’s attempts to strengthen up front have so far been unsuccessful.
Targets Joao Pedro and Liam Delap joined Chelsea, Hugo Ekitike moved to Liverpool, while Benjamin Sesko opted for Manchester United.
Newcastle’s pursuit of Yoane Wissa has also hit a roadblock, with Brentford rejecting a recent bid.
Newcastle United are exploring a move for “two or three” strikers this summer, including Atletico Madrid forward Alexander Sørloth as they await clarity on Wissa’s situation.
Newcastle have also been linked with Jorgen Strand Larsen, who scored 14 goals in 35 Premier League appearances last season.
However, Wolves are determined to keep hold of the Norwegian.
Wolves secured Strand Larsen permanently from Celta Vigo this summer, after initially taking him on loan.
Wolves manager Vitor Pereira confirmed he hasn’t discussed a move with the striker despite transfer links to Newcastle.
“He is a very important player for us,” Vitor Pereira said. “I haven’t spoken with him about it.
“He is committed to the team. I watch him in training and he is committed.
“He likes to win and he is a fighter. He is preparing himself to play tomorrow [against Bournemouth].”
Pereira added: “The market is the market.
“As long as the window is open, players can come and players can leave. This is football.”
