Adrien Rabiot is set to be offered to Manchester United this summer
Manchester United’s new season started against expectations. In the opening match against Arsenal, the team looked energetic in the early moments, but gradually the rhythm deteriorated. Altay Bayindir made a mistake on a corner, and Riccardo Calafiori scored with a header. After this, United looked for an equaliser. Benjamin Sesko was brought on, but the real chances came to Bryan Mbeumo.
His bicycle kick went wide, and the header was stopped by David Raya. The result was a 1-0 defeat. Meanwhile, the club still have things to fix in the transfer window. Casemiro has aged, and the lack of options in defensive midfield is clearly visible. The club had looked at Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton, but their price seems to be out of United’s budget. In such a situation, the question arises as to who will take the responsibility of midfield.
Adrien Rabiot’s option and Romano’s opinion
French midfielder Adrien Rabiot could leave Marseille after a new controversy. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Ligue 1 club are ready to sell him for around €15-20m, and Manchester United will also get this opportunity. However, Romano clearly said that so far, there has never been a concrete conversation between United and Rabiot, and nothing is confirmed at the moment. According to him, the 30-year-old will be offered to many clubs and United’s name will also be among them.

If we look at the qualities of the player, Rabiot has experience, and his ball control and long passing ability can be useful. He is positionally aware and also retains possession in the midfield, but the drawback is that Rabiot has often been involved in disciplinary controversies.
He is now 30 years old, which means that this purchase will not be a future but a short-term solution. A club like United need stability, and that’s why fans should be confused when they hear Rabiot’s name linked to the club. Romano also said that Rabiot was on United’s target list before, but no deal was reached. Now it’s the same situation again, there’s an opportunity, but no certainty.
“Many of those who are close to Adrien Rabiot’s camp are proposing the opportunity to offer Rabiot to clubs, for example, also to Manchester United.”
“He’s a player who was a target for Man United many years ago, and in recent years was never close. At the moment, I’m not hearing anything concrete on Manchester United in negotiations for Rabiot.”
“He is going to be offered to Manchester United and many other clubs as an opportunity for €15-20 million. But at the moment, it’s still an open situation.”
Is Rabiot the right choice?
Manchester United’s needs are clear. The team need to find a replacement for Casemiro and strengthen the defensive midfield. The question is whether it makes sense to sign 30-year-old Rabiot for €15-20m, or should the club spend more money and rely on younger players like Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton. We think getting experience at a low price is tempting, but it doesn’t fit with the long-term plan.
According to Romano, the story of United and Rabiot never moved forward, and it may be the same this time too. The decision depends on several factors—budget, the state of the squad and the priorities of the manager, Ruben Amorim. Rabiot’s discipline issues in Marseille are a cause for concern. He could indeed help immediately, but such moves are often risky. United should perhaps be patient and look to the future, even if it means an expensive purchase. In our opinion, taking Rabiot is the easier route right now, but the true solution is probably one in which the club invest for the long term.
