It has been a solid offseason thus for the New York Knicks as they have focused on upgrading their bench to make a run at a championship next season.

New York is coming off a successful season that saw them reach the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000 but their lack of depth ultimately led to their downfall.

Of course, the Knicks have one of the most potent starting lineups in the NBA with Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges, Josh Hart and OG Anunoby but they were required to do too much last season due to their bench.

Because of this, New York went out and signed Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele in free agency this summer to bolster their second unit and they also have another roster space open to add another key bench piece.

While the Knicks have been linked to many players such as Ben Simmons, Russell Westbrook and Landry Shamet, Malik Beasley’s name popped up in reports on Friday after ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that he is no longer being investigated for gambling allegations.

According to Knicks’ insider Ian Begley, the Knicks have shown interest in Beasley this offseason and they have done some background work on him amid his investigation.

What Knicks must do to sign Beasley

With the investigation now over, the Knicks could pursue the three-point sharpshooter in free agency but they would likely have to make a move beforehand to open cap space to sign him since they can only offer him the veteran’s minimum.

Because of this, New York could find a potential trade suitor for Mitchell Robinson and possibly even Miles McBride to open the necessary cap space they would need to sign Beasley.

Of course, moving on from both players would be a massive risk for the Knicks, especially if Beasley elects to sign with another team, as both have been key bench pieces over the past handful of seasons.

Despite this, adding a knockdown three-point shooter in Beasley to their bench would be a massive boost to their second unit that could help them make a run at a championship, though it would cost them some key bench pieces to do so.
