We’re finally here. We’re done pretending to like other sports, and we don’t have to fake that NFL Preseason games are interesting. Not only do we have college football, but we also have games that matter right out of the gate. There are only five games to choose from, but there’s no whining when it comes to the best bets segment of the program. There were only four games last year in Week 0, and I went 3-2 - I’ll take 60% any time.Except for now. We want more, and it starts with ...
5 College Football Best Bets: Week 0
5. Iowa State vs Kansas State
Line: Kansas State -3Pick: Kansas State- Iowa State vs Kansas State Preview, PredictionThe last few openers in Ireland were easy.Northwestern over Nebraska - got that outright. Notre Dame rolling over Navy - easy. Georgia Tech covering against Florida State - yeah, gettable. This one is about as much of a coin flip as it gets. The two teams are dead even, but the Wildcats have a little more experience, a bit more firepower, and giving away three isn’t scary. If you like Kansas State - this has been the gut-call all offseason - then go. (But I’m hardly married to this pick, unlike the top four starting with ...)- Week 0 Expert Picks
4. Idaho State at UNLV
Point Total: 66.5Pick: UnderIdaho State might not score that much.UNLV should roll - more on that later - but this shouldn’t be too much of a firefight. Last year’s team lost 38-15 to Oregon State, and there’s a dangerous offense in place this time around, but Dan Mullen’s Rebels - even with all the replacements - should be able to keep the Bengal attack in check.UNLV can score a bunch, and the under on the giant total should still come in with ease.
3. Stanford at Hawaii
Line: Hawaii -2.5Pick: Stanford- Stanford vs Hawaii Preview, PredictionFunky things happen in Hawaii, but when deciding between the Power Four and a Group of Five program - Power Four plus Notre Dame were 83-7 last year against the Gof5ers - default to the bigger team.Stanford isn’t quite as gutted as everyone makes it out to be. Frank Reich is a professional head coach who knows what he’s doing, and that includes getting the most out of a defense that should hang on late.
2. Idaho State at UNLV
Line: UNLV -26.5Pick: UNLV- UNLV vs Idaho State Preview, PredictionAnd back to UNLV getting a visit from Idaho State. There’s nothing scientific here - I’m very well aware of how loose this Week 0 predictions piece is - but you’re always going to take the FBS team over the FCS team, right? With so many new parts on both sides, go with the FBS team that has more talent and is looking to prove a point. In general, when the FBS team wins, it’s big. Dan Mullen’s offense should put this away midway through the fourth.
1. Fresno State at Kansas
Point Total: 50.5Pick: Over- Fresno State vs Kansas Preview, PredictionYou think Kansas will greet its shiny redone stadium with anything less than a ton of points? The Jayhawks have a healthy Jalon Daniels at quarterback, the pop is there, and ...
How many Kansas games last year went under 50 combined points? Just one of the first three, but after that, eight of the last nine. The defense still isn’t a killer, the offense will have to keep pressing, and Fresno State should put up some points. The one concern is that new Bulldog head coach Matt Entz knows how to crank up a defense, but how many times did his North Dakota State team last year play a game with fewer than 51 combined points? Out of the 16 games, four and two were in the FCS Playoffs.- Week 0 Schedule & Previews
