‘He’s a hometown hero’ Former NFL player La’Darius Hamilton returns to Corrigan-Camden as assistant coach

CORRIGAN, Texas (KTRE) - For the last eight years, the Corrigan-Camden product La’Darius Hamilton spent his time racking up all C-USA honors at North Texas,

And the opportunities to play on Sundays.

Hamilton signed with the Dallas Cowboys, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Green Bay Packers, and San Francisco 49ers.

But now in 2025, Hamilton finds himself back down Highway 59 after being hired on as an assistant coach at Corrigan-Camden.

“Every time I step out there, I feel like I wanna put my pads on and come out here and do it,” Hamilton said. “...being on the other side of it is a lot more mental and technical,”.

And it hasn’t taken long to for the Bulldogs on the field to flow towards the former Mean Green standout.

“He’s a hometown hero,” Corrigan-Camden head football coach Brett Ratliff said. “...he’s the legend around here. He’s the guy that made it... ...the guys know him and they’ve heard his name and they know his cousins and his mom and his dad,”.

“So when he came over here, they just gravitate towards him,”.

And while this opportunity wasn’t Plan A, with Hamilton planning a return to the football field,

This might not be the last time we see the former Bulldog back under the friday night lights with a headset on.

“I feel like I definitely could get into this world,” Hamilton said. “I’ve been a guy that always could view myself as a coach once I was done playing ball,”.

“I love being around athletes and I love teaching other people,”.

Hamilton and the Bulldogs kick off the 2025 season on the road against the Tarkington Longhorns Aug. 29th at 7:30 p.m,.
