Arsenal managed to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace ahead of rivals Tottenham.
However, the recent transfer saga surrounding Crystal Palace attacker Eberechi Eze could help Man United in a potential sale of one of their players before the window shuts. Arsenal managed to sign Eze from Palace, after Kai Havertz suffered an injury.
The Gunners came in late for Eze, even though Tottenham already had an agreement in place to sign him. It now leaves Spurs desperate to sign more attackers, especially after losing James Maddison to injury and missing out on Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White.
Man United give Tottenham a ‘green light’ to sign Garnacho
However, it has now been reported that Man United is hoping Tottenham will provide competition for Garnacho to help drive his price up. According to GiveMeSport, United have given Spurs the ‘green light’ to sign Garnacho.
The Red Devils reportedly want no less than £50m for the winger, but the report says that if Chelsea do not have any competition for Garnacho, the Blues could sign him for as little as £30m late on in the transfer window. If Tottenham were to come in for Garnacho, it would help United get a better price for the winger and force Chelsea to offer more.
The report explains: “Manchester United have given Tottenham the green light to come back into the frame to sign Garnacho, according to GMS sources, as there are fears that they will be forced to allow him to join Chelsea for a cut-price fee if no other suitors are prepared to put cash on the table ahead of the summer transfer window slamming shut on September 1.”
After Tottenham lost out on Eze, it could be a beneficial move for Spurs to go after Garnacho, who is clearly a creative outlet, who can be a real difference maker, something that Thomas Frank’s side lacks after a frustrating summer transfer window.
Would Tottenham be better for Garnacho than Chelsea?
Amid the reports saying that Garnacho wants the move to Chelsea, would it actually be the best place for the Argentinian winger to go?
If he was to join Chelsea, Garnacho would likely start his career there on the bench, behind the likes of Jamie Gittens and Pedro Neto, who started the season playing in the wide positions. He would be the Blues’ replacement for Noni Madueke, so will be in rotation with Gittens and Neto on a regular basis.
However, as the Blues do have Champions League football, he wouldn’t necessarily get a lack of minutes, but there would be more competition.
If he were to join Tottenham, he would be competing with Mohammed Kudus, and Brennan Johnson on the two wings. However, Garnacho did prove that at Man United, he can play as more of a number 10, as he did in Amorim’s system.
After Maddison’s injury, and Spurs missing out on Eze, there could be a route for Garnacho to replace Maddison, and play as a number 10 in midfield, something that Tottenham are crying out for. That wouldn’t happen at Chelsea, as Cole Palmer plays that role.
