**A Liverpool player who has been compared to Lionel Messi is now in “talks” over leaving the club this summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.**
The Reds have done so much business in recent months, from signing big names to selling key starters, and there could be further movement in the market before the end of the window.
Harvey Elliott is a player who could still leave Liverpool in the next week or so, and speaking to [_Football Insider_](https://www.footballinsider247.com/liverpool-finalising-talks-over-harvey-elliott-transfer/), O’Rourke claimed that the 22-year-old is in talks over a move to RB Leipzig:
_“RB Leipzig are still there exploring this move for Harvey Elliott. There has been some talks held between the two clubs and the Elliott’s representatives. I still think there’s a real strong possibility that he could end up making that move to Germany._ _If they can bring in 40 million pounds plus for Harvey Elliott, they can use that to help balance the books and to use that for those other potential transfers before the deadline._
_“And I think for Elliott himself, he was an unused sub against Bournemouth last Friday on the opening Premier League game this season. He might decide now that he needs to move on in search of regular first team football.”_
**Leipzig an ideal summer move for Elliott?**
---------------------------------------------
Elliott is a fantastic young footballer who can be such an asset for any team, with [Joe Cole](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c1ljpyvq20eo) lauding his ability during the U21s Euros earlier in the summer, even comparing him to Messi:
_“That second goal, if Messi did this, the world would be stopping. He has this ability and the frustrating thing is he could do it on a consistent basis if he played regularly. His problem is he can do so many good things. He’s a victim of his own skills and that is why he has been so good for Liverpool. They can play him anywhere.”_
The brutal reality for Elliott is that he isn’t quite good enough to be a starter for Liverpool every week, despite his undeniable technical ability, with a lack of pace and dynamism working against him.
If he possessed the physicality of Dominik Szoboszlai, for example, he would be a wonderful option for Arne Slot, but the fact that he lacks that side to his game means a new challenge is likely to be best for him this summer.
