Man United are reportedly keen on a midfielder with a market value of £39 million.

Ruben Amorim will be pleased with his summer transfer business this year, as he has added significant attacking talent to his squad. He signed Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbuemo and Benjamin Sesko, but now wants more.

The holding midfielder role is still a position of concern, as the Red Devils lost out on a deal to sign Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, after they were priced out of a deal by the Seagulls earlier in the transfer window.

They are now said to be considering alternative targets who can play alongside Bruno Fernandes in midfield, and to give the defence more protection.

Man United have ‘looked at’ Angelo Stiller

One player that the Red Devils have been credited with interest in is Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller, who plays as a holding midfielder for the German club, and for the Germany national team.

According to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, Man United are interested in Stiller as a midfield option, but they are yet to make any contact regarding a move. Sheth said: “Manchester United are still exploring the market for a midfielder in this transfer window.

“Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller is a player the club like and have looked at. However, it has not gone further than initial interest – there has been no club-to-club contact.”

The 24-year-old midfielder’s contract at Stuttgart expires in June 2028, and he currently has an estimated market value of around £39 million. It is not yet understood whether the Bundesliga side are willing to sell Stiller, but he is a key player, so they will likely be reluctant.

Last season, he made 47 appearances for Stuttgart, scoring four goals, and providing 11 assists, which are very impressive numbers for a defensive-minded midfielder. He helped Stuttgart to a mid-table finish last season in the Bundesliga.

What other midfielders are Man United looking at?

In terms of other alternative midfielders that have been linked in recent weeks with a move to Old Trafford, Sporting CP star Morten Hjulmand is still on the radar. Hjulmand is more of a physical midfielder and has previous experience playing under Amorim at Sporting before he came to United.

Hjulmand has a release clause of £68m, but it is understood that the midfielder could be available for less with a reasonable offer.

Although that could be a tough one to pull off, considering that Palace recently lost Eberechi Eze. Plus, Palace have a risk of losing centre-back Marc Guehi to Liverpool too, and so the Eagles would likely suggest that Wharton isn’t for sale based on their recent sales in the transfer market.

As things stand, based on financial situation and other factors, Stiller may be the most likely signing for United out of the three midfielders they have been linked to.
