Chelsea have lost a player to injury, but it does not look to be too serious.
Chelsea were without one of their best players on Friday night for their thrashing of West Ham. The Blues were excellent at the London Stadium, though it must be said that West Ham were particularly poor, conceding three goals from corners.
Enzo Maresca’s men failed to score in their opening game, but they netted five and with five different scorers on Friday evening.
Maresca said after the game: “The start was not the best in the way we planned with Cole Palmer’s injury and conceding a goal after five minutes, but the reaction from the players is something that is very good to me.
“Especially you could see how confident they were about the game plan. They stuck to the game plan on and off the ball and continued in the same way. I am very happy, very impressed.”
On Palmer’s injury specifically, he added: “Cole in the last four or five days was not one hundred per cent. Today he tried in the warm-up, but he felt something, so we preferred not to take any risks and make it worse, and we will see in the next hours if it’s something important or not.
“It’s a groin problem. It’s already the Palace game he was not one hundred per cent for, but he has tried to make a big effort for the club, for the team, for the fans, because he is really keen about the team. Tonight he tried again but it was not very good.”
It would seem Palmer will be back sooner rather than later, and that will be seen as bad news for Fulham, Brentford and Manchester United, who are Chelsea’s next three opponents. Chelsea fans will be particularly excited by the fact their side are capable of scoring five goals and without one of their most dangerous and creative players in Palmer.
