The Seattle SuperSonics legend was instead sentenced to 12 months of community service for his role in a shooting incident outside the Tacoma Mall two years ago.

The 55-year-old pleaded guilty to second-degree assault earlier this year after reaching a plea agreement with the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. He had initially faced multiple felony charges, including first-degree assault with a firearm and drive-by shooting, and could have received up to 10 years in prison.

Under the agreement, Kemp must complete 240 hours of community service as part of his sentence, sparing him from the potential prison time associated with the original charges.

During his NBA career, Kemp was regarded as one of the greatest dunkers of all time. He was a six-time All-Star and famously faced off against Michael Jordan and the 72–10 Chicago Bulls in the 1996 NBA Finals with the SuperSonics.
