Manchester United have until the transfer deadline on Monday 1st September to sign some more players
Manchester United were beaten 1-0 at home by Arsenal in their first game of the new Premier League season. They weren’t able to break down the Gunners and slumped to an opening match defeat. Nevertheless, they have the chance to bounce back in their upcoming fixtures.
Ruben Amorim was picked as their replacement for Erik ten Hag during the last campaign. Prior to his move to England, he caught the eye in his native Portugal with Sporting Lisbon. He has endured a mixed start in terms of results at Old Trafford and will be hoping for some more consistency over the coming weeks and months.
Manchester United linked with Brentford’s Nathan Collins
Manchester United are keen on Brentford defender Nathan Collins, according to CaughtOffside. They are being linked with a swoop for the centre-back before the end of the transfer window on Monday 1st September. However, league rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have also been credited with an interest meaning there is competition for his signature.
Collins, 24, would be a shrewd pick-up by the Red Devils if they were able to get him. He would boost their defensive department and tighten things up at the back. In addition, he would give Amorim another option to pick from.
The Republic of Ireland international, who has 30 caps under his belt, joined Brentford back in 2023 under their former boss Thomas Frank, who is now at Spurs. He has since become a key player and is one of their most prized assets. The Bees face a real battle to keep hold of him amid attention from elsewhere.
Collins has played 77 matches for the London club in all competitions to date and has scored four goals from the back. He moved over to England as a youngster and initially broke into the first-team at Stoke City as a youngster. The Irishman then had two quickfire spells at Burnley and Wolves in the top flight before making his home at the Brentford Community Stadium.
Manchester United should offer Brentford swap deal
It may prove tough for United to land Collins, especially with Spurs and Liverpool lurking. Therefore, they should try and think outside the box in this particular pursuit. With that in mind, a player plus cash swap deal may suit both parties involved.
Striker Rasmus Hojlund is facing an uncertain situation at this moment in time. His game time may now dry up due to the arrivals of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Therefore, they should offer him to Brentford.
The Bees need attacking reinforcements and the Denmark international would be perfect for Keith Andrews’ side. They have lost Mbeumo already and Yoane Wissa continues to be in limbo amid interest from Newcastle United. They could be in for a season of struggle if they aren’t able to bring in some more quality.
Hojlund would benefit from getting some regular minutes elsewhere and he would be the main man up top for Brentford if he went there, even just on loan. He is someone who needs to get their confidence back up and Andrews would be able to give him the freedom to express himself. The forward has struggled to make an impact over the last 12 months or so and could do with a change of scene to help find his shooting boots again.
