Arsenal have been one of the busiest clubs in Europe this summer. But, head coach Mikel Arteta is clearly not satisfied yet.
The Gunners are now chasing more attacking spark. Eberechi Eze is already close to joining the club. His medical is reportedly done, yet the club is lining up an extra wide option. That’s where Malick Fofana enters the frame.
The Belgian winger has been monitored by Everton and Nottingham Forest as well. Thus far, he has resisted a move. But, it is pretty obvious that Fofana values UCL football and Arsenal can provide him with that.
Fofana waiting for the right stage
At just 20, Fofana has been tagged as an ‘explosive’ talent who thrives on pace and direct play. Lyon’s financial mess has forced them to sell key names like Rayan Cherki and Alexandre Lacazette. That means more exits are likely before deadline day.
The French side values Fofana at around €40m. That is a fee Gunners could manage if they succeed in selling their players first. There’s competition though, with Bayern Munich also circling and keeping tabs on the youngster.
Lyon boss Paulo Fonseca is keen to hold onto him. But, the board’s financial pressures might tip the scales. What’s clear is that Arsenal see Fofana as a player who can add flair and depth to their attack. That is especially with a long season ahead across multiple competitions.
