How Newcastle United players would feel about Alexander Isak returning, according to Eddie Howe.
Jaws dropped when Isak broke his silence on his future on Tuesday evening, where, in a bombshell statement, he wrote, “when promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue.”
Newcastle responded within a matter of hours, denying suggestions that Isak had been told he could leave this summer, whilst also adding that they “do not foresee” the conditions of a sale being met.
The 25-year-old wants to join Liverpool but the Magpies won’t consider selling unless they sign two strikers before the transfer window shuts on September 1.
Isak is continuing to train alone at the club’s Benton training ground and won’t be involved in Monday night’s game against the Premier League champions at St James’ Park (kick-off 8pm).
Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton social media activity gets people talking
The social media activity of Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton this week has hinted at possible anger towards Isak’s conduct.
Within minutes of Isak releasing his statement, many believe it wasn’t a coincidence that Guimaraes shared a photo of him in a Newcastle shirt.
Then, less than 24 hours later, Wor Flags posted an image of a St James’ Park flag display along with a caption referencing Isak’s ‘broken promises’ claim, which was liked by Joelinton.
The post read: “Idolised and adored. No promises broken by the fans that make this club. We deserve better than the destructive path you’ve chosen. Newcastle United will never be defeated.”
Newcastle United’s squad wants Alexander Isak to return - Eddie Howe
Howe has been consistent in his message that he wants Isak to return to the group as the earliest opportunity. When asked if the players felt the same, Howe replied: “Yeah, I think there's no doubt how the players will feel. I think they'll feel the same way I do.
“Alex is an outstanding player and I have to say he's a very, very good person, good character. He's a good lad, wants to succeed in his career.

“This has been a really difficult situation for him, for the players that we have to sort of see us without him. I think they've handled it really well. But if Alex decided to come back and play for us, the players would welcome him back.”
When could Alexander Isak return to the squad?
Isak is unlikely to feature for Newcastle before the transfer window closes. The first game after that is Wolves on September 13. Although the player is likely to stay, it remains to be seen if he will be reintegrated by then.
“I think that's probably a conversation for another day,” said Howe. “At the moment, that is not an option for us. So rather than talk hypotheticals, I'd rather talk when we get there, when we get to that point. And then, of course, we'll enter that phase and see what we need to do to try and get the best for Alex, get the best for the team, which is always the priority.
“But until that point, I think we're best focusing on the players we have available for the next game.”
