Everton have been heavily linked with a move for Nathan Ake in the last few days as they try to reinforce their defence before the upcoming deadline.

David Moyes has made it no secret that he wants further additions to his squad, but the Toffees are rapidly running out of time to get deals done with the window set to close on 1 September.

Ake is the latest man linked with an Everton move, as the Dutchman could be on his way out of Manchester City after five consecutive seasons in their colours.

The former Chelsea academy graduate is now an experienced campaigner in the Premier League, and he appears to have caught the Merseysiders’ attention of late.

Everton could sign Nathan Ake for £15-20m

There have been conflicting reports surrounding Everton’s interest in Ake in the last few days, but the Daily Mail insist that the centre-back is a target for Moyes and Co.

Pep Guardiola has expressed a desire to trim his squad before the deadline, and Ake could be a likely fall guy, with Rayan Ait-Nouri’s arrival now providing stronger depth on the left side of the defence.

Both Ake and Josko Gvardiol have been used as auxiliary left-backs by Guardiola at times, but that now looks likely to change, and it could impact the Dutchman’s future.

Ake has over 230 Premier League appearances to his name

He has won four Premier League titles with City and one Champions League

Ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes that the defender would provide an improvement to the Toffees’ options, and they should be looking to do a deal as a result.

“I like Ake, he always puts in a performance for Man City,” King said.

“He could certainly be pushed in alongside (Jarrad) Branthwaite, or (James) Tarkowski if needed.

“He would be a good addition, he’s got good experience now, and he’s a solid defender.

“City want to recoup money, but they aren’t going to get their £40m back for him, that’s for sure. He’s a £15-20m man, I would think.

“He’s now 30, but he’s got a good three or four years in him still. Ake would be a good asset for Everton.”

David Moyes needs Nathan Ake deal

Everton’s interest in Ake has been called into question by some quarters in recent days, but it seems like a possibility that would still be worth exploring.

The Toffees desperately lack quality and depth at the heart of their backline, with just four senior options at present.

Those numbers are stretched even more thinly given how often Jake O’Brien has been needed to fill in at right-back over the course of the last six months.

It is unwise to attack a Premier League season with potentially just three senior centre halves, and as a result, Everton must pursue a deal for Ake.
